This video features an urgent and in-depth discussion on the failures of current international climate strategies and the need for a bold new approach. Host Herb Simmens is joined by Dr. Graeme Taylor, lead author of “A Realistic Climate Strategy,” and renowned climate experts Dr. Peter Wadhams, Paul Beckwith, and Dr. Peter Carter. The panel explores why existing policies have not prevented dangerous global heating, highlighting the rapid rise in temperatures, catastrophic tipping points, and the inadequacy of current emission reduction commitments.
This video was recorded on May 28th, 2025, and published on June 15th, 2025, and represents the opinions of the discussion participants.
Dr. Taylor outlines the core arguments from his new paper, emphasizing that without immediate cooling interventions—such as solar geoengineering—there is no realistic path to stabilizing the climate and preventing irreversible impacts like ice sheet collapse and mass extinction. The discussion addresses the controversial but increasingly necessary role of solar radiation management, the ethical and governance challenges it raises, and the need for a global scientific and policy consensus to move forward.
The conversation also features expert insights on the accelerating pace of climate change, the risks of inaction, and the critical importance of combining emission reductions, carbon removal, and direct cooling. The panel calls for urgent international collaboration, research, and political will to implement a comprehensive “climate triad” strategy that can avert catastrophic outcomes for humanity and the planet.
